ABOUT ASPEN YOUNG PROFESSIONALS ASSOCIATION

Aspen Young Professionals Association (AYPA) was formed in early 2003 by a group of nine young professionals living and/or working in Aspen who wanted to network with other young professionals in the Aspen community. One of the goals of the group is to help recruit and retain a young, vibrant professional community in Aspen the surrounding area. The high cost of living and limited opportunities for professionals in the Aspen has contributed to what is often referred to as "brain drain" where educated, young professionals migrate to larger cities for better opportunities.

A second focus of AYPA is to enhance the quality of life for the area young professionals by providing networking opportunities, volunteer opportunities, and educational opportunities. These professionals wanted to contribute to and be a part of the community. Thus, from these objectives, a mission statement was derived.

GOALS OF AYPA

  • Business Development — To promote personal and professional development of AYPA members and to provide educational opportunities for growth.

  • Community Awareness and Involvement — To be a part of–and to give back to–the community in which we live and work.

  • Networking — To nurture a young professional community by providing opportunities to develop professional relationships.

Congratulations to all who had the foresight and the desire to form a group of young professionals who live and/or work in Aspen. I was delighted to be invited to speak to AYPA prior to this year's November election. It was impressive to see the number of attendees and the high level of interest and inquiry...Aspen needs and welcomes your participation in community affairs. Aspen's future depends upon its young professionals and leaders.

I commend AYPA on its goals to raise awareness of the community and its issues, and to encourage your members to get involved in the community. You are an impressive group. You not only are a resource for your members, but a valuable resource to the Aspen community."
